Like many of Boston’s neighborhoods, Charlestown is steeped in history—Revolutionary War history, to be more specific. It’s served as a meeting place for historical figures and as a battleground, visible from the neighborhood’s abundance of landmarks and plaques decorating the neighborhood. Highlighted by the Bunker Hill Monument and its surrounding park commemorating the first major battle of the Revolutionary War on June 17, 1775. In modern times Charlestown has become an idealistic place to start a family - rife with parks and playgrounds, cafe's and restaurants. One such spot is the Warren Tavern - Established in 1780 - it is the oldest tavern in Massachusetts and was a popular watering hole for George Washington and Paul Revere. The Navy Yard (part of the Boston National Historic Park) houses the USS Constitution - our nations oldest battle ship. A number of new marinas have recently been built spanning the Navy Yard waterfront, making Charlestown a true boaters haven. While being located within walking distance of Boston's North End and Faneuil Hall, Charlestown maintains a "suburban" quiet feel; free of congestion and noise. Residents also happily welcomed a new addition to the neighborhood; a large Whole Foods in the Bunker Hill Plaza.
